2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Alma Bryant finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Alma Bryant finished ninth in Class 7A region one with a 0-8 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. No team at Alma Bryant ever lost more games in a season than the ten they lost last year. The Hurricanes last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Alma Bryant averaged scoring just 6.4 points a game. The Hurricanes would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Alma Bryant football program has struggled with a record of 15-47. Over the past 18 seasons, Alma Bryant has managed to compile a record of 74-116. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 7A and 290th in the AHSAA. The Hurricanes have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2003. The Hurricanes are led by head coach Bruce Breland who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 6-25 over the past three seasons at Alma Bryant. Under his direction the Hurricanes have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Breland. Coach Breland's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 87-100 (46.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Breland's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won one region championship. Coach Breland won a state championship at Coosa Valley Academy in 1984. The Alma Bryant Hurricanes will play in Class 7A region one during the 2016 season. The Hurricanes enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 15 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Hurricanes will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Alma Bryant will be to simply win some games. The Hurricanes open the 2016 season at home against region opponent Murphy on Friday, August 26 at Hurricane Stadium. Last year the Murphy Panthers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 7A region one. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Lee Montgomery by a score of 37-21. Alma Bryant and Murphy have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Hurricanes have a 5-19-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2015 with Murphy winning by a score of 48-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
